for natural disasters

In history, when human beings started to fly with an object which was called a glider, they cannot imagine today’s technology. During WW I, for the collecting and spying, people tried to use unmanned vehicles such as dirigibles and balloons or half-unmanned gliders that could fly and take pictures from enemy sides and returned back to alliance sides. This was the birth of the idea of unmanned vehicles. Over the decades, various unmanned vehicles have been developed and used to provide intelligence, especially after the time of WW II. Such programs QueenBee and Ryan 147-B have emerged for this purpose. In modern terms, the first unmanned aerial vehicle has been developed with the project of Tadiran Mastiff and IAI Scout by the time of the Yom Kippur War. These two of them have been created a tremendous impression around the world. This phenomenon has progressed with developments such as the Pioneer, the Gnat, and the Predator. While it has been operating in civil aviation fields since 2006, it has become widely used in the community since 2011. Today, they are being used in very vast fields such as Reconnaissance and Surveillance, Search and Rescue, Environmental Protection, Postal and Organization, Space Studies, Marine Research, Air & Land Security and will be used in Building Smart Cities. To build the future of the world in every field we need these vehicles. So what are these vehicles for? Of course, there are a lot of areas that could be used in different types of UAVs, but in this writing, we will examine the areas in which natural disasters and their possible future.

There would be a mistake thinking that unmanned aerial vehicles only could be used in military areas. Since 2006, the unmanned aerial vehicle has been used for civil usage areas especially in natural disasters. Let us think of a disaster somewhere which could be an earthquake, after the catastrophe in that area, people were afraid of what was happening around them. For those under the wreckage, search and rescue would be difficult due to the disorder. At that very moment, people need to be helped quickly and effectively. If we look at it from this angle, we need an eye flying through the air to guide the people on duty. Here, UAVs can solve the problem to cheaper and more useful, and more efficient than the other vehicles on the air. Because UAVs do not want to cost more than airplanes, helicopters, etc. Hangar, maintenance, fuel costs, personnel expenses, etc. all other expenses are cheaper than other vehicles. In addition, one can stay in the air for hours and does not need a pilot (inside, of course).

There would be a good perspective to think with different useful areas of UAVs. In these days, the countries have the forest are fighting with the massive forest fires. Airplanes or helicopters could be a good solution to beat the fire but also the presence of unmanned aerial vehicles would be more effective. The swam technology used with the UAVs can be transformed into a firing squad. They can carry skips and put out of the fire by pouring the water. In other sayings, they can work like flying firemen. On the other hand, UAVs can be future sky guardians or service providers or can be both of them. They can be patrolling in the air to prevent any disasters or missing persons in the forest or provides the internet to areas that do not have it. In that way, the world becomes a village that nets turned. After that, some situations occur about security and privacy but these topics are future research.

To sum up, in this world, everything turns to technological ability and being able to use it. Countries or companies won’t be stopped to use it therefore on that point, UAV’s privacy, capability, and new ideas must be arranged to build tomorrow’s lives. Except all of that points, natural disasters are current issues to immediately need solutions, and UAVs can be guardians and serve emergency service in natural disasters. Maybe in the future, to prevent disasters, there would be different sizes and capacity UAVs will be developed and will be used. Today’s world needs new vehicles to fight catastrophes.
